AUDITION INFORMATION

Please prepare a song selection of roughly two minutes in length.

It is not necessary to prepare a song from the eras of the shows; it is more important that you show your voice, range, and expression.

All submissions will be considered for both productions unless you specifically state otherwise.

Provide a headshot and resume when you submit.

Send all audition submissions to walter@southbaymt.com

Note to sopranos: For Broadway By The Decade (BBTD-2000s), there will be few songs for sopranos.  If you sing in both soprano and alto registers, submitting a song in the alto register is preferred.

IMPORTANT DATES

The rehearsals for both shows will happen primarily on weekend days, roughly between 10 AM and 4 PM. Brad will make personal arrangements with each cast member for his review. The Titanic staff will publish a rehearsal schedule once we have a cast.

Oct. 31–deadline for submission

Saturday, February 1–BBTD dress rehearsal 9 am – 5 pm

Sunday, February 2–BBTD performance at 7:30 pm

The week of April 7–Titanic rehearsals in the theater, Monday through Friday.

SBMT Casting Commitment

South Bay Musical Theatre is actively re-shaping our company to be reflective of the community it serves. We practice non-traditional and identity-conscious casting in all our productions. We are seeking and highly encouraging all actors to submit, regardless of race/ethnicity/caste, disability, body type, age, orientation, or gender/gender identity.

THE PRODUCTIONS

Broadway by the Decade - Musicals of the New MillenniumBroadway By the Decade: Musicals of the New Millennium

Brad Handshy has been providing SBMT audiences with his hand-crafted evenings of musical theater songs for so long that he has worked his way through the entirety of Broadway’s 20th-century repertoire. Now he journeys past the turn of the century and provides our audiences with a look at the years 2000-2009.

If you are unfamiliar with how Brad works, here is how he puts his special evenings together:

“I choose the songs that I want, then find the singer to fit the song. I don’t find the song for the singer. I may see/hear someone spectacular via audition, but they might not “fit” into any of the songs I have planned.”

Brad tells us that he has his song selections already made and we are guaranteed a terrific evening of entertainment.

Titanic: In ConcertTitanic: The Musical in Concert

Rarely performed (because sinking a ship onstage is hard) but possessed of a glorious score, this is a show that singers and instrumentalists have been champing at the bit to perform. The opening number is one of the true greats in the Broadway canon, and the show requires great voices and a great orchestra, so that’s what we intend to have for our concert production, in the style of our 2017 Chess: In Concert.

There will be a 21-piece orchestra onstage and we want to have a company of 40 singers (roughly 24 men & 16 women). We will be doing some book scenes and all of the music, with cast members holding their music in a black binder. We will keep staging to a minimum.

This will be a fundraiser for SBMT and everyone on staff, crew, in the cast, and orchestra will be donating their time.
