No No NanetteNo, No, Nanette

Sep. 28 – Oct. 19, 2024

Book by Otto Harbach and Frank Mandel. Music by Vincent Youmans. Lyrics by Irving Caesar and Otto Harbach. Adapted and originally directed on Broadway by Burt Shevelove. Directed for SBMT by Doug Greer.

No, No, Nanette is a lighthearted romp showcasing the charming music of Vincent Youmans. Even though it was written and first performed 100 years ago, it brought us a couple of songs about happiness that remain popular today. The wacky story involves three couples sharing a cottage in Atlantic City in the midst of a blackmail scheme, with plenty of deception, romantic mishaps, and comical misunderstandings. The score includes two of the best-known songs in musical theatre – “Tea for Two” and “I Want to Be Happy” – as well as “I’ve Confessed to the Breeze,” “You Can Dance With Any Girl,” and “Take a Little One-Step.”
