Wanted: Business Manager

South Bay Musical Theatre, one of the South Bay’s longest running live musical theatre organizations, is looking for a responsible individual with excellent attention to detail for a part-time (~10 hours/week) Business Manager position. Accounting experience a plus. Role reports to the Chief Financial Officer, but works independently and may set their own hours. Work can be done remotely. Responsibilities include: oversee payroll records management, including onboarding and offboarding, and process payroll. Manage banking records including transaction reconciliation and month-end close; make payments to contractors and vendors. Process organization’s required tax forms and insurance policies. 

HOURS: Average 10 hours/week (may vary between 1-15 hours/week depending on company schedule), flexible work hours and location as long as all deadlines are met. Candidate must be a California resident.

SALARY: Hourly non-exempt position paying between $20-25 an hour, or $11,000-$13,000 annually.

Job Activities

PAYROLL: Process payroll 2X/month, including confirming hours with management. Maintain records; fix journal errors. Manage onboarding and offboarding employee records for SBMT’s three productions per year, including obtaining required IRS forms from employees (W-9, I-9, etc.). Employees include organization staff, actors, musicians, creative directors, and technical staff, and may be contractors or hourly.

BANKING AND RECORDS: Pay monthly bills such as rent, production expenses. Track and manage reimbursements. Categorize and reconcile bank transactions, company purchase cards. Process and deposit donations and all other checks. Add new vendors to accounts as needed. Perform month-end close of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. Manage yearly insurance renewals. Check SBMT company P.O. box bi-weekly.

FINANCE REPORTING: Provide banking and payroll reports to CFO / Board of Directors, including a 12-month rolling cash flow forecast. Draft SBMT annual budget and update budget with actuals as needed for company management. Support short and long-term fundraising campaigns as needed, including financial reports for grant applications.  

TAX REPORTING: Process all required tax forms for the organization in a timely fashion, including 1099s, property tax forms, and all required state and federal tax forms.
