Not long ago, volunteer Yvonne Hirsch conducted interviews with the SBMT Board of Directors to get their thoughts on a variety of subjects related to the arts community we serve. The following is part two of a two-installment video series. Last week the Board discussed Community and Legacy; this week they turn their attention to Leadership & Momentum. Dick Robbins: Well, I’m so impressed with what what’s going on in the company and I’m new to this as far as the board’s concerned. I feel there’s consistency.

Tipu Purkayastha: I feel that there’s a certain standard that I can expect from SBMT. We have an excellent Executive Director who’s really fired up and excited about the future of SBMT.

Steve Sammonds: Between the team we have now with Artistic Director Walter Mayes and now Executive Director Michael Hirsch, they work very well together and they’re able to support each other and complement each other on different skill sets.

Caroline Kondo Moore: SBMT brings live theatre to the community. It keeps live theatre alive for the community and it also importantly uplifts and supports artists.

Marcy Bates: We have cast so many people that have never done a show at SBMT before and so I’m super excited about the new talent that we’re finding. I’m excited about some of the possibilities of our community outreach.

Steve Sammonds: The other thing about South Bay Musical Theatre is we are committed to continuing to always have live orchestra band accompaniment.

Ann Lucena: I’m very excited about the future of SBMT, because it’s a very dynamic organization that’s able to really adapt to the changing environment. Every time that there’s a hurdle or something different that happens, SBMT reacts and adapts very quickly. We have a great group of volunteers —both Board members as well as the bigger group of volunteers—who help us every day to make it possible, and we have an amazing pool of talented performers who really want to be a part of SBMT. So that’s a really perfect combination to be successful in the future.
