Richard Cartwright retiresAfter 40 years providing SBMT excellent support as our Master Carpenter, Richard Cartwright has done his last show with us. Retiring to spend time with his wife, Marilyn, he hopes to travel and enjoy life free of production schedules for once.

In addition to building nearly every set that has appeared on our stage since our 1994 production of Anything Goes, Richard has maintained our set shop and kept track of lumber, tools, equipment, and all the things that make theatrical production possible. SBMT has had many volunteers and helpers over the years, but none have had the lasting effect of the service that Richard has brought us. His professionalism, attention to detail, and kindness have made him the best kind of collaborator.

He will be greatly missed, and all of us at SBMT wish him and Marilyn well in their retirement.

Richard’s biography has been a regular fixture in most of our playbills. Here’s what it said in the Brigadoon program.

Richard Cartwright (Set Shop Manager, Master Carpenter) has performed, stage managed, and built sets for many SBMT shows, and cites our 1994 Anything Goes as a favorite. He has also stage managed and tech directed at Sunnyvale Community Players. Sincere thanks to all who have helped him build this set. He sends special thanks to his wife, Marilyn, for her help, support and understanding – and “letting me play with my friends.”
