Music by: Leonard Bernstein.
Book adapted from Voltaire by: Hugh Wheeler.
Lyrics by Richard Wilbur.
With additional Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and John Latouche

Discover the brilliance, wit, and musical fireworks of Candide in this special concert presentation of Leonard Bernstein’s operetta masterpiece. Based on Voltaire’s satirical novel, Candide whisks audiences on a whirlwind journey filled with dazzling humor, philosophical mischief, and breathtaking music — including “Glitter and Be Gay” and the soaring finale, “Make Our Garden Grow.”

Bernstein will be instantly familiar to SBMT audiences as the composer of On the Town, staged by the company in 2022, as well as the iconic West Side Story. Presented in concert format—with full orchestra and glorious voices, this production puts Bernstein’s virtuosic score front and center, offering a thrilling opportunity to experience one of musical theatre’s most exhilarating works in all its brilliance.
