Discussion

  • Jeffrey needs to replace the wall-mounted electrical cord reels at the shop, which will cost $770. Braden also updated Jeffrey that the toilet chain broke again and needs to be replaced (studio.)
  • Jay formally emailed Dan and asked him if he would be willing to develop a proposal for specs for projector system. Doug Baird has expressed interest in using it for Will Rogers Follies if it’s in place in time.
  • Sara reported that she had a great meeting with the people who are interested in teaching the classes we’ve discussed. The question now is where. If we do it at the Community Center, the City will charge us $67/hour. Our studio is free. The community center gives us the option of multiple classes at a time. But if we are charging students $18/class and paying city $67/hour to City, how much will we be able pay teachers and still at least break even? If we do it in Saratoga and pay teachers nothing, we need 4 people per class to break even.
    • We’re looking at July/August
    • Steve A asked if we could split time at the Community Center and one at the studio.
    • Nancy is willing to give us an even bigger discount for the first two weeks to see how it goes.
    • Looking at 3-week audition prep with Mayes and Johnson. Intro acting and Level 2 acting with Hirsch (6 weeks). Francesca wants to do level 1 and level 2 tap (6 weeks). Kayvon wants to do musical theatre dance, 3-4 week session. Kevin Brownstein wants to do some sort of music theory class, but we need to define it more. Maybe a sight- reading class? Choral singing for the actor?
    • Possible drop-ins for dance classes.
    • Ideally, we would like to advertise in Millie program.
    • Board agreed to go ahead with renting Community Center. If no one signs up, then we cancel, but otherwise we go through with it and build for next time. Call it SBMT Conservatory. For age 18 and up. We will pay staff, but we’re not sure how much yet.
  • Sara will send out the Harassment/Procedures policy tomorrow.
  • Jordan wants us to start capturing number of volunteers, contractors, etc for grant purposes.
  • Sara is almost done with staffing for next year.
    • She Loves Me staff – Daniel Hughes has been hired as VD. Joe Kelly is MD. Jillian Toby Cummings will be choreographer. Stacy Levin will likely be an asst. choreo, director, vocal.
  • Blossom Festival is happening on April 13. Actors will walk around and take pics and play historical roles. There is a space for a booth for us. We can bring a table and tablecloths. Denise volunteered to sit at table with brochures. We don’t want to try to sell tickets due to lack of internet and power.
  • Rotary is May 4 and 5. We need to touch base with them to see if we can volunteer and/or have a booth.
  • We should probably have an SBMT-branded tablecloth and/or sign for booths in future.
  • Steve A and Sara met with City Manager (James). He said that we will likely get new LED lighting and it looks like it will happen a year from now.
  • Braden went over expenses for 2019-2010 season and solicited feedback.
    • Considering cutting internet at studio;
    • We are looking for a way to pay for sound insulation at top of studio wall.
    • We also need a truck. Do we want to do a GoFundMe? We can’t put it in budget right now. We can rent trucks and charge it to overhead or production as appropriate. Jeffrey will start renting a truck and take out of production budget for each show.
    • We would like to increase cast and crew stipend to $125 per show if we can make budget work.
    • We will talk about revenue next time.

Actions

  • Jay will contact Noreen regarding Richard Cartwright’s liability question.
  • Jay will pull together volunteers (actors), independent contractors, artists for past 2 shows plus Millie for Jordan’s grant info. This is for fiscal year.
  • Steve A will contact Rotary to see if we can have a booth.
  • Jeffrey will check with Mattie if he will stop renting studio if it doesn’t have internet.
  • Jordan will look into capital grant for sound insulation wall at studio.

Meeting adjourned at 9:02pm
