by Doug Hughes, Marketing Director
As Marketing Director for South Bay Musical Theatre, my job is to sell you on our upcoming season. That usually means hyping the shows, teasing the titles, and dazzling you with reasons to subscribe. Easy, right? Well—this year, there’s a twist. I can only talk about two of the three shows. The third one? It’s fabulous. It’s Tony-winning. It’s a total crowd-pleaser. And it’s top secret until mid-September (when the rights house lets us talk about it).
So, what’s a marketer to do? I decided to flip the script. Instead of pitching shows, I’m pitching people. If you fall into any of the groups in the following “Top Ten List,” congratulations: you’re exactly who we had in mind when we programmed this season. (Even the mystery musical. Especially the mystery musical.)
Whether you’ve been a longtime subscriber or someone who only pops in for a favorite title, this is the season to go all in. Here’s why.
Who Should Subscribe to SBMT’s 2025-2026 Season? (Spoiler: Probably YOU!)
- Mothers and Daughters (and Sons!)
This season celebrates fierce, nurturing, and wise women who shape the next generation—whether they’re singing lullabies, writing novels, or guiding with a steady hand. If you believe in the power of maternal magic, this season will speak to your heart. - Hopeless Romantics
Love is in the air all year long, with charming courtships, poetic proposals, and relationships tested by time, distance, and circumstance. Expect swoon-worthy moments and duets you’ll hum all the way home. - Music Lovers Who Wish Life Were a Musical
From waltzes to ballads to high-energy showstoppers, the variety in this season’s score is unbeatable. It’s a year-long symphony of joy, and every note is best heard live. - Families Who See Theatre Together
Looking for a shared experience that everyone from Grandma to your grade-schooler will enjoy? These three shows offer humor, drama, and life lessons that land differently at every age—but resonate with all. - Teachers and Bookworms
This is your season. From a beloved literary adaptation (Little Women) to a musical inspired by real history (The Sound of Music), the stories on stage are rich with character, conflict, inspiration, and happy endings. - Couples—New or Long-Term
Romance is at the heart of all three shows this year—whether it’s first love, lasting love, or love challenged by hard choices. Ideal for a date night—or three. - History Buffs and Period Piece Fans
Love an immersive time capsule? We’re hopping from the 1930s to the 1860s to…well, you’ll have to wait and see. With gorgeous costumes and rich settings, it’s like walking into another era every time the curtain rises. - Theatregoers Who Cry Happy Tears
You know who you are. Whether it’s a rousing finale or a quiet moment of connection, all three shows deliver those goosebump-making, lump-in-your-throat, standing-ovation emotions. - People Who Love Stories of Resilience and Reinvention
If you draw strength from characters who rise above hardship, fight for family, or find themselves in unexpected places—these shows will light you up. - Folks Who Believe the American Dream Should Belong to Everyone
We can’t quite tell you the title of our third show yet—it’ll be revealed in mid-September — but let’s just say it’s a bold, beautiful, Tony Award-winning celebration of community, dreams, and finding your voice in a changing world. In the meantime… have patience. Keep the faith. Something incredible is coming.
